Light Detection And Ranging, more commonly known as LiDAR, uses lasers to create point clouds to accurate model and measure terrain, buildings and any type of structure. Unlike photogrammetry, LiDAR is able to penetrate foliage and tree canopies, to enable accurate digital terrain models.
